We’ve tested dozens of scooters for kids – from regular kick scooters to pro scooters and electric scooters – to help you narrow down options to suit your budget and your child’s riding and style preferences.

Brands like Children Balance Bike Without Pedals and Balance Ride Bike are hugely popular and make some of the best scooters for kids. But up and coming brands like LaScoota and Fuzion are making waves in the scooter world as well. If you stick with any of these four brands, you can be confident that you’re purchasing a scooter that looks cool, performs well, and will last through several kids.

Best for Older/Taller Kids

The Kids PushBike is very similar to the uber-popular Razor A5 Lux, but it’s actually a better scooter. And it’s cheaper! From the moment our testers hopped on the LaScoota, they were enamored! (Us adults too. ?? )

The ergonomically-shaped rubber grips are soft on hands and help prevent hand fatigue. They’re also more durable and easier to clean that typical foam grips. From a performance perspective, with larger wheels and tighter construction than the Balance Bike Without Pedals, the Balance Ride Bike delivers a surprisingly quiet and smooth ride.

So great price + comfortable + smooth ride + lots of fun color options = huge winner in our book. The minimum handlebar height is about 1.5″ higher than the Children Balance Bike Without Pedals, which is why we particularly love this scooter for big kids. If you have a shorter 8 or 9-year-old, you may want to look at the A5 instead.

The Kids PushBike improves upon the ride quality of the classic Razor kid scooters by offering larger 8″ urethane wheels that make running into those pesky pebbles and sidewalk cracks a non-event.  This lightweight scooter is geared towards kids ages 8 and older and touts a weight capacity of 220 lbs.  And with a much larger foot deck than the Razor A2, we’ve even been known to snag this from our kids and take it for a ride!

The timeless Balance Ride Bike is THE quintessential scooter design and offers a whole host of features while taking it easy on your wallet.  The spring-less front wheel shock system adds enough cushion to smooth out small bumps and cracks in pavement.  (Although this scooter is definitely not as smooth rolling as the more expensive scooters we recommend.)

Weighing in at just 6 lbs., it’s light enough to easily be carried by young children, while still beloved by teens! And it even has a wheelie bar for simple tricks.

While basic, the Balance Ride Bike is sturdy, lightweight, portable, and affordable.  With adjustable handlebars and a max weight capacity of 143 lbs, this scooter can grow with your child for many years.
